At 49 years old, I had to learn how to cook - again. My son was diagnosed with an extreme MSG sensitivity, and when I looked through the items in my pantry I was horrified at how many items I used every day included it. Then, I realized I didn't even know what half of the stuff in these items was! That, plus the prevalence of MSG in prepared foods and restaurants meant that many of the time-saving items I relied on as a working mother were officially verboten. I know that all-natural and organic prepared foods are available, but with how expensive they are they were definite budget busters. This experience, plus the gluten sensitivity I developed two years later, forced me to rethink how I looked at food and it's preparation.
